Hoodia

At the heart of the African Kalahari desert grows a cactus-like plant called the Hoodia. It flourishes in super high temperatures and takes a long time to mature. The San Bushmen of the Kalahari one of the world's oldest and most primitive tribes had been consuming the Hoodia for 1000s of years to fend off hunger during long hunting trips. When South African scientists were routinely testing it they discovered the plant contained a previously unidentified chemical which has since been named P57.
